Karaintha Nizhalgal

Name :  Karaintha Nizhalgal
Author : Ashokamitran
Year of Publication : 1970
Genre : Fiction, Novel
Rating : **** ( Four stars out of 5)

Ashokamitran's deceptively minimalist style of storytelling throws light on the hitherto unexplored faces behind the dream factory of Kollywood. In a novel based on Kollywood, we do not get to meet popular stars or successful technicians. Rather, we get to meet tireless production managers, assistant directors who have lost jobs, female extras who suffer in sweat under glitzy dresses and film producers on the verge of bankruptcy. The author says very little and leaves the rest to our imagination. For a novel based on the Kollywood of 1960s, that is quite an ironical achievement.
