Oru Veedu Pooti Kidakiradhu
Name : Oru veedu pooti kidakiradhu Author : Jayakanthan Year of Publication : 2017 (Stories written during the years 1957 - 1971) Genre : Fiction, Short Stories Rating : **** (Four stars out of 5) Reviewing this book is more a reflection of the anthologist Sukumaran's choices than the legendary writer Jayakanthan's short stories. The common threads running through the stories in this collection are compassion for the poor, shocking subversion of society's "values" and complicated relationships. Stories like "Agnipravesam" which created a furore when it was published in the 60s feel contemporary today. While there is the odd story like " Thiraskaram" which remains inaccessible even after multiple readings, Jayakanthan ( like Ilayaraja from the world of music) is that rare artist who could weave highbrow stuff which even the common man could relish.
